Risk Disclosure

Effective 8 October 2026 · Last revised 10 October 2026

Trading tokens through Privy carries real risk. This page summarises the main ones. It is not exhaustive and is not financial advice. It forms part of our Terms of Service.

Price volatility and loss of capital

Token prices can move sharply in seconds, and many tokens fall to zero. You can lose all the SOL you trade. Only trade amounts you can afford to lose entirely.

Slippage and price impact

Privy’s default slippage tolerance is 15%, which is high. It means a trade may execute at a price up to 15% worse than quoted, and you will receive less than the quote as long as the result stays at or above the minimum output you approved.

Large trades in small markets also move the price themselves (price impact). A tolerance only sets the worst result you accept. It does not guarantee your trade executes, and it does not protect against every form of price movement, front-running or other MEV. You can lower the tolerance in settings, but lower settings make failed trades more likely.

Liquidity shortages

Some tokens have little or no liquidity. You may be unable to buy them, or later unable to sell them at any price. Privy cannot guarantee that a route exists or that you will always be able to exit a position.

Failed, delayed and congested transactions

Solana transactions can fail, expire or confirm slowly, especially when the network is congested. A failed step can leave a trade pending, needing a retry, a refund or manual review. Network fees spent on failed attempts may not be recoverable.

Token contract, scam and malicious token risks

Anyone can create a Solana token. Tokens may imitate well-known names, have hidden mint or freeze authority, block selling, or be abandoned by their creators. Privy does not audit or endorse tokens shown in search. Always check the token address.

Token-2022 restrictions and transfer fees

Tokens using the Token-2022 standard can charge a fee on every transfer, freeze accounts or restrict who can hold them. These features can reduce what you receive when buying or selling, or prevent a sale.

Third-party routing and availability

Swaps depend on Jupiter for routing and on Solana RPC infrastructure. If these are slow, wrong or unavailable, quotes may be inaccurate and trades may fail or be delayed. Privy may also pause trading during incidents.

Security and custodial risks

Your purchased tokens are held in trading wallets whose keys Privy generates and stores encrypted on its servers. You do not hold those keys, so you rely on Privy to secure them and to act on your instructions. A security breach, loss of the encryption key, an operational error or the end of the Service could delay or prevent access to those tokens, and could result in their loss.

Privy has not been licensed, registered or approved by any financial regulator, and is not supervised as a custodian. Your holdings are not protected by deposit insurance or any investor-compensation scheme.

Delayed payouts and recovery

Sale proceeds and refunds are sent to your connected wallet by separate transactions. These can be delayed by network conditions, failures or manual review. Privy does not currently support moving purchased tokens out of a trading wallet other than by selling them.

Public blockchain visibility

Every Solana transaction is public and permanent. Deposits from your connected wallet, swaps by your trading wallets and payouts back to you can all be seen and analysed by anyone.

Limits of wallet separation and privacy

Separate trading wallets make your trades less directly visible from your main wallet, but they do not make you anonymous. Timing, amounts and the movement of funds through Privy’s addresses can link your wallets. Privy also keeps records that link them. Privacy is not guaranteed.
